The Founder of Perez Chapel International (PCI) Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare has led a prayer session for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the current unrest in the main opposition party.
The Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition is going through turbulent times as irate supporters mass up against the national chairman Paul Afoko and general secretary Kwabena Agyepong over the killing of the party’s Upper East regional chairman Adams Mahama.
Afoko and Agyepong have been barred by the party security known as the ‘Invisible’ from entering the party’s national headquarters for allegedly sowing seeds of discord within the party.
Preaching at the Supernatural Empowerment Summit at the Perez Dome in Dzorwulu, Accra, Agyin-Asare prayed to intercede for the NPP to remain strong “to serve as a check on the government” ahead of the 2016 elections.
He added: “The unity of the party at this time was very important.”
The Bishop also asked the congregation to pray against any spirit of confusion within the party and prayed for peace and unity for the party. He also prayed that what is happening will not lead to communal violence.
The flagbearer of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo has also backed calls for prayer and fasting for the largest opposition party.
At a press conference in Accra, Nana Addo admitted the party is going through difficult times and needs God to intervene.
“I will not tolerate chaos within our party. The recriminations against ourselves in this period of healing, I repeat, must stop. On the contrary, we should all embrace the laudable initiative of the National Women’s Organiser who is launching, as from this Sunday here at the party headquarters, a week of fasting and prayers for the welfare of the NPP.
“I have no doubt that, with the help of Almighty God and by our collective determination, the storms that are currently buffeting the great, historic movement that the NPP represents will soon subside so that it can fulfil its mission of developing our nation in freedom,” Nana Addo stated.
According to him, “The NPP is not the first party to face crisis and the NPP will not be the last party to come out of its crisis stronger. I want to assure you. I am confident of our capacity to overcome and we shall overcome.”
