A contractor named in the Auditor General’s report for wrongful payments of up to 5.4 billion Ghana cedis is claiming innocence.
Eric Sorkpor, the Chief Executive Officer of Ablaze Company Limited, maintains that he was not overpaid for the contract awarded him by the Ministry of Agriculture as stipulated in the Auditor General’s report.
Setting the record straight on Adom FM’s anti-corruption segment Fabewoso Wednesday, the distraught businessman said he was paid for the construction of an irrigation dam at Dawa in the Greater Accra region way back in 2016.
He explained that, he raised four certificates for payment which were granted thus cold not fathom why other dubious certificates raised by ghost companies are being attributed to him.
Mr. Sorkpor said his contract did not go beyond one billion cedis and was paid through the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) which can be easily verified.
“I was paid through GIFMIX and I did not authorize any company to receive monies on my behalve so I was extremely surprised my company was named in the report” he bemoaned.
Mr. Sorkpor called for thorough probe of allegations of contract inflation made by the Auditor General against his company to bring the culprits to book.
