Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has rubbished reports that he was the one who raised money to ‘bribe’ the minority members of Parliament so they can approve the nomination of Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.
Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga on Friday accused Energy minister, Boakye Agyarko of attempting to bribe the minority members of the committee, to clear him following his vetting – but they rejected it.
According to him, the energy minister’s bribery attempt was made through the chairman of the committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu which was given to the minority caucus by its chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak.
The two have since denied ever given money to the former Sports Minister despite other minority members of the Appointments Committee claiming they also received the sum but have since returned them.
Mahama Ayariga claimed that rumours that made rounds on the floor of Parliament indicated that a certain MP was boasting that he helped in the raising of the money to ‘settle’ the minority. The conduct of the MP in the public, Ayariga said made them reject the ‘bribe’.
This statement of Ayariga caused communicators of the NDC to take to social media to suggest that Kennedy Agyapong was the MP who was involved in the raising of funds to bribe the minority.
Alhaji Bature on Adom TV Tuesday accused Kennedy Agyapong of being ‘instrumental’ in the raising of the money to bribe the minority MPs. “All the episodes would be told very soon, and the name of Kennedy Agyapong would be very instrumental in all this…,” he said.
The MP reacting to this however questioned the logic behind such speculations arguing that ‘I don’t use my money for such purposes’. “I have heard people saying on social media that I raised the money and I laugh…I have money but don’t use for such purposes…,” he reacted.
Kennedy Agyapong who said he didn’t have the full details because he isn’t a member of the Appointments Committee called on Parliament to conduct a full scale investigation into the allegation.
